蔡英文晚間在臉書發文，指出今天是大憲章（Magna Carta）訂定整整800年的紀念日，同時也是台灣的警察節。這兩個看似毫無相關的節日，卻讓今天成為一個值得靜下心來，思考政府與人民關係的日子。
蔡英文說，過去在美國、英國求學的日子裡，她常常感受到人們提及「大憲章」時，語氣中所透露的重量。
她說，雖然大憲章最初的樣貌，已和當代憲政運作大有差異；但它的許多基本精神，仍然存續到了今天。
她指出，人民的身體、財產自由應該受到保障，國家機器未經法定程序，不能逮補、拘禁人民，隨著台灣的威權時代遠去、民主更加成熟，這些原則被越來越多人視為理所當然。
蔡英文表示，依法行使職權，是執法者榮譽感的來源。台灣有許多優秀的警察，辛苦執行勤務，不恃權、不濫權，應該給予支持與鼓勵；大家也不能忘記，政府權力應該節制，不該迫使警察違背良心、剝奪警察尊嚴工作的權利。1040615
